D'Angelo Brown has filed a lawsuit against Melrose Park police officers G. Sullo, C. Fogg, Sgt. Rodriguez, and the Village of Melrose Park in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (Case No. 24-cv-3360) on April 25, 2024. The plaintiff alleges that his civil rights were violated under the Constitution of the United States and the laws of the State of Illinois.

Represented by Jordan Marsh LLC, Brown recounts an incident on September 4, 2022, where he was allegedly arrested without proper cause by the defendant officers during a festival in Melrose Park, Illinois. The arrest followed a dispute over a parking spot with local residents which escalated into an argument but did not involve any physical altercation or threats as claimed by the defendants.

The complaint further states that Brown was wrongfully accused of threatening to shoot up the block based on hearsay from a single individual identified as Robert M. Cannan in the police report. The plaintiff asserts that this claim is false and was used as a pretext to justify his unlawful arrest.

Brown seeks redress for violation of his civil rights under Title 42 of the United States Code, Sections 1983 and 1988, and is demanding judgment against all defendants for compensatory damages, punitive damages, attorney's fees and costs.
